The "Old bank" at Cobargo. Now the HQ of Kinetix Sports Clothing.
Original drawing by Ray Barnett of Candelo.
Digitally coloured and enhanced by Margo Hinton-Pantland.
The building was originally built in 1917 for the Bank of NSW.   It continued as a bank, finishing as a Westpac branch when it was closed in May 1994.  It was then purchased by Margo and Graham Hinton of Kinetix Sports Clothing in July 1994. This late Edwardian style building was designed by architect Robin Dodds and was, with its stark design lines, considered to be rather modernistic for a civil building of its era.  The building is now listed as a item of hertitage interest and was returned to it's original colour scheme by Margo and Graham Hinton of Kinetix in 1998 after consultation with
Clive, Lucas, Stapleton  and Co,  a group of architects renown for their work with heritage building restoration.   In the 60's it had been trimmed with Navy Blue and later Bright Aqua when it became a Westpac Bank. The interior has cedar fittings throughout complete with an imposing cedar staircase.  The bank vault with its massive steel door is still intact and there is an original wood fired laundry copper in working order in the residence section.  Unfortunately much of the cedarwork has been painted over and would require extensive work to restore but in general
most of the building is still fairly original.
